Chau Pham is among the most admired woodcarvers, distinguished not only by his talent, but also by his approach to our art. He’s said “I feel it is not about winning or losing, its all about fun, and it should still be fun even if I lose.”

He learned woodcarving in the course of four years in Buddhist Temple in Vietnam. After fleeing Vietnam Chau was awarded a scholarship at the Atlanta College of Art where he majored in Commercial Art.

Fellow carvers and competitors are appreciated for more than the mechanics of carving. He said he’s “loved how carvers could turn the hard surface of wood into the illusion of soft feathers.”
